We are sure that the personalities of our wines are so special because of the unique environment in which they are rooted. The Aceniche Valley, where:

  • The soil type is varied
  • Within the Valley there are distinct microclimates; colder areas where only the Monastrell is suited. Sheltered and mountainside areas that permit the cultivation of shorter cycle crops such as Merlot at 900 meters altitude in trellised, arid land.
  • Geological studies show that the deep roots of the aged Monastrell reach right down to the water table and thereby avoid hydro- stress and the appearance of bearding on the vines.
  • We only supply support irrigation to the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Syrah.
  • The soil variations of our vineyards provide the characteristic mineral nuances of our wines: Monastrell has blackish, slatey soil. Tempranillo’s soil is chalky. The Cabernet Sauvignon’s soil is clayish with an abundance of loose stone. Syrah’s soil has a predominance of lime, and Merlot’s is clay/lime.
